Obviously I've been bad about blogging and there's been a decent amount of stuff going on! Most notably, I went deep in the WPT Championship last week, but wasn't able to final table, finishing in 18th. We started day 1B with 100k in chips, which gives an extreeemely good strucutre but perhaps a bit slow. My starting table was pretty tough with the likes of Phil Ivey, Blair Hinkle, Scott Seiver etc but I had position on the toughest players so my day went by ok. I finished day 1 with 200k and I was off to a running start. I will tell you, I played some of the toughest tables of my life in this tournament! Just ridiculous stuff. It was like a Full Tilt commercial everywhere I looked. On day 2 my main table consisted of Mike Matusow Howard Lederer Barry Greenstein Nick Binger Peter Feldman among others, and it was definitely tough, but I was getting absolutely smacked in the head by the deck! Matusow made sure I knew how good I was running, but it was also good to hear him compliment me continuously on my play. It's nice to hear that from Matusow who is usually calling everyone a donkey! Things continued smoothly through day 3 although I certainly tried to give it away when I blew up with AJ preflop and pushed all in vs. KK and lost. Made a recovery and picked up KK vs. QQ near the end of the day and ended with about 800k, plus I won a year of free almonds... ha I didn't realize Blue Diamond Almond player of the day actually won that, yum. As we played down to two tables I was confident but was up against some very tough young players, and I wasn't able to make the final surge, busting in 18th. I obviously needed to take some notes from Bertrand Grospellier, who of course ended up getting 3rd, and Yevgeny Tomishenko, who i had seen before but really saw this tournament how good he could play. Well deserved. Besides this tourney I've had some fun nights, (420obv}, got to party with some NFL players for a bachelor party one night, and headed to Los Angeles briefly before hitting the road again to Monte Carlo, where I am now. Oh yea, also drunkenly final tabled Jen Harman's yearly charity tourney for the SPCA that sees help for abandoned animals, it's a great cause. Also, I am so saddened by the lost of our friend Shronk from online Poker Road. He was such a decent and nice human being and the thought of him suddenly not being here has led me to tears at times I didn't expect. I'll really miss you man ;( I'll blog pretty soon about my time in Monte Carlo for the EPT championship. Late |
