My last couple of events I have been playing like an absolute Garbage Pail Kid. Not being patient, forcing things, losing focus, tilting when things go slightly wrong. It all is stemming from just having too much going on, but that is no excuse. If you are going to come out and play at the WSOP, you need to bring your focus and your patience, and I'm just not doing that, regardless of what I have going on off the felt. If I don't find a way to cut through the other stuff when I am playing then I am honestly not going to play at all and just focus on other things this Summer.

I'm even more pissed off because today was the short-handed event and it is one of my best usually. I actually didn't play badly at all today, but still, I consider it a missed opportunity to not do well in this event. Just gotta get my head right!

Focus on the felt is one of those things that is incredibly fragile. Much of the time when you aren't playing well and not locking into what is going on at the table, you may not even notice that your head is elsewhere. It can be so slight and manifest itself in tiny ways like simply playing a hand that you just shouldn't or not raising in a spot where you normally would. Poker is a game of exactness though, so those tiny little errors are enough to kill your chances in an event. Poker TV

On the positive side, it looks like things might be starting to die down a little bit now that we are through this first week almost. If I can get my head back in the games here, I do expect that I will do well. Historically when I have been able to truly lock in, I have played pretty effectively. It is definitely true on the online poker table that my worst enemy is always me. Time to start keeping my mind a little less cluttered when I play...

On the plus side, I am absolutely fired up about all the insane content that we are putting up on PokerRoad. I couldn't have a better team and they are getting it done in spades here at the Rio. From 'PokerRoad Radio' to 'Life Of Ivey' to 'Blogfessionals'. I love my team!

peace,
J
