Aussie Millions Next for Tournament Circuit
The beginning of the year is always a travel-fest for the insane who don’t want to miss a major event. The PokerStars PCA finished up yesterday in the Bahamas with PokerStars team member, Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, claiming the title and $2 million in cash. This week, it will be Full Tilt Poker’s turn as many head to the Aussie Millions Poker Championship. All of Team Full Tilt will be converging on the Southern Hemisphere for the $1 million guaranteed first prize event.
The AUD 10,500 (10,000 +500) buy in event will take place January 14th through the 20th at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. With a large field anticipated, there will be three initial starting days. Day 1A, 1B and 1C will be played Monday through Wednesday. Each player will start with a 20,000 chip stack and the initial blind level being 50-100. This event has a unique setup as play will move to 8-handed as soon as space permits on day one. 8-handed play will continue until only 36 players remain at which time play will shift to 6-handed. Day 1 will consist of seven 90-minute levels.
Last year’s Aussie Millions produced a field of 747 entrants yielding a total prize pool of AUD 7,470,000. The final 80 players standing all were guaranteed AUD 15,000 (US $12,000) with the champion receiving AUD 1,500,000 ($1,200,000). After five lengthy days, the tournament was down to the final table. The final table consisted of two Full Tilt sponsored pros (Andrew Black and Kristy Gazes) and one member of Team Full Tilt (Gus Hansen). The final nine and their payouts were:

The Aussie Millions Poker Championship is known for its unique lineup of events. There’s an AUD 1,650 No Limit Holdem event with a bounty on each table. There’s an unusual two-card Manila poker event as well. Also part of the series is an AUD 5,300 Heads-Up championship. Not pricey enough for you, well the Crown Casino has that covered too with the high stakes AUD 100,000 buy in No Limit event.
The main event will commence on Monday, the 14th at 12:30pm in Melbourne. We will be on hand with new videos and episodes of “PokerRoad Radio”.
