The WPT Rolls on to Foxwoods Nov.
7th-Nov. 13th, 2007

Following another successful event in Niagara Falls, the World Poker Tour will stay on the east coast for one more event. On this occasion, everyone will gather in Mashantucket, Connecticut for the next edition of the Foxwoods World Poker Finals.
The $10,000 buy in tournament will take place November 7th through November 13th at the massive Foxwoods Resort and Casino. This year with the size of the field expected, players will be able to choose if they start on Day 1A or Day 1B. As an incentive to obtain the largest possible field, Foxwoods is adding $20,000 to the overall prize pool. Each player will start with $30,000 in tournament chips and play 90-minute blind levels with the starting level at 50-100. The first three days of the event will be five levels in length.

Last year’s World Poker Finals drew a large field of 609 entrants creating a huge prize pool of $5,749,481. The final 60 players were all guaranteed $14,309 with the last man standing taking home $1,717,194. After four grueling days of play, we reached the final six for the TV table. The final six consisted of three very well known tournament professionals and three relatively unfamiliar players who were all guaranteed $200,000. The final six and their payouts were:

1. Nenad Medic $1,717,194
2. Ezra “EG” Harvin $904,389
3. Mimi Tran $472,228
4. Michael Omelchuk $343,439
5. Kathy Liebert $257,579
6. Michael Perry $200,340

The story of the week was EG Harvin, a 27-year life insurance professional who only began playing poker a few years ago when his neighbors gathered for a $1-$2 home game. Harvin gained entry into the $10,000 event when he won a satellite for a meager $150. He ended up taking home just over $900,000 as the runner-up to high stakes professional Nenad Medic. After the event, Harvin stated that his church would get a healthy donation from his winnings.

With only two WPT events left in the calendar year (Foxwoods and Bellagio in December), a large field will be in attendance to attempt to gain as many “Player of the Year” points as possible. Recently added as a red Full Tilt pro, online superstar Jonathan Little made a nice jump in the standings for his runner-up finish in Niagara Falls. He now trails David “The Dragon” Pham by less than 200 points and has accumulated $2.5 million in earnings this year. The winner in Niagara Falls, another online wizard and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Scott Clements jumped to third in the race and is only about 300 points behind Pham. Clements has also amassed a very impressive $2.2 million in winnings in 2007. The race for the title will likely come down to these three plus tournament veterans Bill Edler and J.C. Tran. Last year’s World Poker Finals winner, Nenad Medic was awarded 1,920 points for his victory so plenty of points will be up for grabs at Foxwoods.

Another event will commence with Day 1A on Wednesday at 12:00pm EST. We’ll be at Foxwoods for all the excitement.
