Foxwoods Poker Classic Starts Friday
The World Poker Tour will head east of the Mississippi River following a successful run on the West Coast. After events in Los Angeles, San Jose and Reno, the WPT now moves to lovely Connecticut for the Foxwoods Poker Classic.
The $9,700 + $300 tournament will take place April 4th through the 9th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. With satellites running year round, another large field is expected. Play will commence Friday at noon EST. Registration will close at 1:30 EST. Each player will start with $30,000 stacks and play will consist of 90-minute levels. The initial blind level will be 50-100 before jumping to 100-200. Foxwoods has made it clear that 3% of the prize pool will be withheld for the tournament staff. That should eliminate any controversy like we saw at Bay 101.
Last year’s Foxwoods Poker Classic started on March 30th with the final table being held on April 4th. The event featured 415 entries, creating a total prize pool of $3,898,635. The top 40 players were all guaranteed at least $13,645, with the eventual champion walking away with $1,298,405. The final three tables consisted of several well-known professionals. They included: Chau Giang, Kirk Morrison, Bill Gazes, Jean-Robert Bellande, Justin Pechie, Steve Sung, Nam Le, Ted Lawson, Allen Kessler and Fred Goldberg. This string of events will conclude with the $25,000 WPT Championship, which will run from Saturday April 19th through April 26th at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
