Default bankroll management problems

ill start this off by saying i am horrible with my BR management. ill sit in 1/2 for 8 hours win lets say about 500$ then spend it on something stupid.

or ill be playng 2/5 buy in for 500$ get up around 1500 then loosen up and start leaking out money the rest of the night. thats one of my biggest problems. i dont start playing my best poker till im not comfortable. when i am comfortable i loosen up get alittle to fancy and the leak begins.

i mean dont get me wrong im not a losing playing whatsoever. my only problem is my "what if i had that discipline where would i be now". discipline is what i lack and i desire.

anyone else have this problem and or solution. i know the solution is easy to this....but executing it might even be more difficult.

im thinking of trying this for the next few weeks. ill go into the casino give myself a max time limit and profit margin. lets say im at 1/2 i go up 300...i leave. next night same thing. im gonna try this 5days a week maybe 8 hours each for three weeks. then ill do the same at 2/5. ...

i need to give myself a set plan and execute it. plain and simple.

any ideas? or am i alone on this one...

This isn't bankroll management. It's more of an idea of only playing with a particular % of your total bankroll at any 1 time. For instance to play 1/2NL depending on your style of play you would want 30-50 buy-ins ($300) so that would end up being $300 X 30-50= $9000 - $15000 in your roll. I'm assuming from your comments you are a recreational player. If so this doens't apply as much. Either way the idea of bankroll management is if you run bad or play bad during a period of time it wouldn't hurt your bankroll enough to cause disaster.

ya im more recreational than anything meaning i have my main job...but during the winter im usually not working so most of money comes from that.

how do i explain this...my roll has never been my problem...i have never come up broke or close to it. its more of my lazy attitude towards the money ive earned and how i percieve it. ??? if that makes any sense.

what i mean is i dont have the discipline alot when im sitting there with 2-5 of my buy ins. my attitude becomes lazy and i just start leaking out money on the table....then after awhile i realize this and have to start playing catch up again.

for instance...last week at foxwoods i played 4 nights straight at 2/5. bought in for 500...went up down in the beginning, eventually being in for about 800 alltogether in the night (well say that for each night i was in for about 800 on average). by the end of every night on average im leaving with about 1600.

now the question i ask myself is..why cant i play the way i did towards the ladder end when i doubled my investment into the game. meaning i eventually left with 1600 each night. now what if i can hone my game and discipline in and learn to buy in for 500 stay disciplined, cut off my leaks, and earn just as much.

thats my problem.

take a break during your sessions, even if its just like 10 minutes, walk around the casino or get a snack.

30-50 buy ins for live 1-2? That seems a bit high, even when running bad I can't see you dusting off that many buy ins.

This isn't as much a bankroll managment issue as it is a focus and discipline issue. When you lose focus and have crappy discipline you play looser and push -eV edges. I know from first hand experience as I have done it/do it also. The best thing you can do is set a schedule and push yourself to follow it. Take breaks...even if you don't cash out just get up from the table every 3-4 hours and walk around, leave the table for atleast 30 minutes to clear your head. If you have problems playing with a deep stack, then you should cashout when you take your breaks and start over with a shorter stack again.

From what you are saying about not playing your A game until your are uncomfortable....That is when you regain your focus.

My first time sitting in on what is a "big" game for me (10-20 FL), I got my stack up over 200% my buy-in. Like you, I got cocky, lazy, arrogant, etc. and pissed it all away by the end of the night. Since then, I have learned to control my situation since I can't control myself. Once I get a pretty good investment on my original buy-in, I'll simply cash out, go get some grub or walk around for a time and then go and buy back in with the original amount. That way your profits are not on the table and you can keep playing the style where you are most comfortable with.
