1/2 NL Showdown help
Had a pretty fun session at the Bethlehem sands last night, I was wondering for some advice on my biggest hand, I think I played it right, we can discuss that if I did anything really stupid, but I sort of want to discuss my habit of calling the river and opening my hand immediately when I think I'm good, then kicking myself for not giving the other guy a chance to show.
So the game is being relatively normal, the maniac is gone, and 2 decent players just left, leaving the game 7 handed with 2 people I have classified as "fish." The player to my left, the villain is an older man who has been playing mostly solid poker, except for at least twice where he's stacked off, mucked his hand without showing, muttered to himself, rebought immediately for 300 and went on tilt for a few minutes. He doesn't appear to be on tilt right now, and the effective stacks are around 315.
I pick up AA in the SB and raise to 14 after 3 people including the villain on the button limp. I end up with 2 other callers. The flop is Q 7 3 rainbow. I bet 20, MP folds, button calls. The turn is a 3 of the 4th suit so I bet 44 and he immediately raises to 100. I would be scared of the 3 with some other players, but not him, and I don't think he would limp call, check call pocket queens. The river is a king, I check and he shoves for his last ~180. I take a few seconds to make convince myself that he didn't flop a set and call and immediately turn over my hand. He mutters, mucks, and whips out 3 dollars.
I know he had a queen, but knowing the other card would be very useful. I showed right away because I was pretty sure I was good, and trying to make him show would lead to him steam raising the next 20 hands instead of the next 5.
I guess in summary, how do you get people who bet and don't showdown immediately to showdown a hand you are pretty sure you beat without coming off like a dick.
