15/30 question from a live NL player.
I have been playing NL in Los Angeles semi-professionally for about 3 years now. My winrate is $20+ an hour over the 3 years @ the low limit no limit games/ middle stakes. Yesterday one of the floor guys mentioned to me that they were looking for a couple of new house players to start a 15/30 limit game. The job would pay $20hr starting @ 25 hours a week. I found it tempting because after 3 months they said you could go full-time and receive health benefits. My question is this: I am primarily a NL player, is it too far fetched to think I could beat this game without a lot of limit experience? I've read/studied all the 2+2 books, I'm confident, but my bankroll is only 10k and I'm not sure this is something I should risk. Any advise/opinions would be appreciated.

If it is a job you dont need a bankroll. ADD in health benefits this is a no-brainer, but I think you are fos.

Not a no-brainer, because he can still lose.
I think it's a rare opportunity and worth a shot. If you don't want it, I'll gladly come out and beat up on LOL Angeles regs and random fishes.

Maybe I dont understand how the job part of it works then. I thought he would play with the house money and they pay him to play. or something like that.

As a prop ( your own money ) as opposed to a shill ( house money). Don't know anyone that hires shills.

Yeah, only deals I've heard of the player uses there own bankroll, not the houses.
This way the player can never cheat the house. They get the hourly rate (effecive rake back?) and thier winnings.

The down side to prop playing is you have to help start games which can suck because it's always the least popular/profitable games spread..

I think you also have to leave the game once there's a list.

i would sign up for a poker training site and watch a lot of limit holdem vids to get very well versed in the advanced concepts of limit holdem, but i highly doubt you would struggle much in this as long as you basic game is pretty fundementally sound

Just remember the differences between limit and NL, which I'm sure you're familiar with, try not getting too frustrated there's nothing like LHE to bring the tilt demon to visit. Otherwise, I think 10K is prob enough. I wouldn't imagine the 15/30 games would be particularly tough, maybe not quite as many stations as some of the smaller games, but the $20 an hour should help quite a bit to make up for one less station at the table.
Make sure your short handed game is good as well. I think this is a great oppertunity for you and you should give it a shot. If you can beat the game, even better, hell 1 BB an hour increases your win rate by quite a bit when you factor in your pay from the room. Keep us posted.
