Hey folks,
I wanted to give let you in on a project that just replaced my typical freelance work at the WSOP (thank you Black Friday.) I jumped on board to do marketing, photography and writing with a couple of guys from Deuces Cracked that built a website for one of my favorite summer pastimes, Fantasy Poker. It just went live the other day. You can check it out here:
OwnIvey.com - Fantasy World Series 2011
I know you guys know how this works and I know you might be surprised to see me using a salary cap and cash system. Well, A) it's easier and B) I'm not programming it, so they get their own way.
If you have any questions about the site or how it works please let me know. Because the site is so new if there are any bugs or any difficulties with navigation or suggestions we REALLY need to hear about it from you. Even if you don't play (and it has a free mode for the folks with their bankrolls still stuck on UB/FTP) please please tell me so I can try to fix it. It won't hurt our feelings - I just want to help them make a better product. To a point, I know it's still getting a lot of dents knocked out, so you are starting up in Beta, for lack of a better term.
Obviously there's no obligation here, but if you do want to just throw my cranky old ass a bone, here are some things you could do:
1) Like us on facebook:
Ownivey | Facebook
2) Follow us on twitter:
Twitter
3) If you want to be a bit more active, sign up for an account at the site (it's free), draft a team of players, and enter the team into a league. If you want to compete for money, great, but you're also very welcome to compete for free - you'll see that many of our leagues have a $0 entry fee. It's set up with PayPal so you are secure on both ends and thanks to the rediculous carve out of the UIGEA -- you can gamble online about fantasy poker, but you can only fantasize about playing poker online. Fun, huh?
4) If you don't want to do that, how about just drafting a team and emailing/PMing me who you chose? You can even do that without registering an account (just make sure you select 10 players and spend less than the F$1,000 cap). Believe it or not that actually IS helpful - Tecmo and OwnIvey like data an we have a lot of ideas for how it can be interpreted, but before I do that they need some input, so I'm hoping to see my stalwarts here throw their hats in the ring. Seeing who is getting picked by a lot of users is vital information for me. Who am I kidding -- you guys will at LEAST play a free team, right? Private tournies are coming, but for now, just pick a tournament number and post it here. We have 10 man, 100 man and heads up challenges -- so knock yourself out, have grudge matches, challenge the PokerRoad gods themselves.
5) Tell your friends, especially if you know any who are involved in poker or who you think may be interested in the site.
I know Sports Geek has been really cool with poker road and I'm not trying to snatch anything away from them here or just 'shill' (gawd I've come to hate that word) for OwnIvey.com, but to help a bunch of guys that love and have been dedicated to poker for a long time get something off the ground. My hope for the next stage is a more robust offering for the WSOP-E, a WPT tour and even a Global Monster like we did here. I'm not lucky enough to have a 6th Wilbury running stats, so I hope these guys can handle it. I feel like this site has put a lot more work into things from a Poker Fan's perspective and all the work we did here with online spreadsheets and forum banter is taking shape on the site. So, how about taking a bit and drafting a team, kicking it into the fray (you can design as many teams as you want and play them vs. whomever is available) and even taking me -- RuntCake -- on.
I definitely don't want anyone to feel like they have to do anything, but I will say that I would appreciate anything anyone does. A lot of the above things will only take a few minutes. All I'd ask is that, if you're going to help, please do it soon. The World Series of Poker starts on May 31st, so we're trying to do as much as we can before that time. I hit town on 3 June, I hope some of you make it out there with me.
