Default This is my Journey, Man!

This is my first time writing anything personal, or almost writing in general that isn't a strategy post etc, so bear with my rambling, I don't always get my point across very well. And I will try to keep my spelling/grammar/punctuation etc to a decent standard

So it looks like I'm dropping out of college. I really haven’t been happy with it for quite some time. I haven’t been motivated, and therefore haven’t really gotten any proper work done.
I started this course (Architectural Technology) over three and a half years ago. Due to a series of my friends dropping out and leaving, I kind of gave up towards the end of that year and didn’t complete my final project or hand in a portfolio. Still that wasn't too bad, I had enjoyed myself for the year. I had been really involved in the drama society and we actually won "best production" for an original play called "Operation Closet Escape".

Trapped in an attic and discarded by the world, the toys are coming out to play. “Operation Closet Escape”, by Brian Dennison is an offbeat fairy tale that takes you on a journey through the looking glass & into the toy box. Our narrator brings you to the world of forgotten toys in a quirky tale of tortured love, tortured toys and a tortured soul.

I put a lot of time into that play, and it was totally worth it, it’s been one of the most enjoyable times of my life. It wasn’t the sole reason for my failing the year though, a profound lack of motivation came into it as well, you might even go so far as to call it laziness, but I don’t think that’s it. Anyway, at that stage of my life, I put it down to a lack of maturity due to my young age; I was not long past my 18th birthday. So I knew I had failed the year and that I would repeat it because I found the work I was doing interesting, and I thought I had an aptitude for it. So I went away and forgot all about it for the summer, and came back to start over.

Check back here soon for more from my life,

Peace,
Journeyman.

Do you have any plans for the near future? Any aspirations for work?

Sometimes, we need to take a step back...take a break, re-evaluate what our goals and aspirations are in life. I'm sure u will make the correct decisions for yourself and where u hope to be in 5 10 even 20 years from now. All the best to u. BTW when I told u to drop out of school (in some other thread) I really was totally kidding

Best of luck with whatever you do decide to do though.

Journeyman 1, just for what it's worth, in my personal experience not having a college degree has kept some doors closed to me in life. I advised both my children to get a degree, it doesn't really matter what school you go to and sometimes it doesn't even matter what the degree is in, it just matters that you have the piece of paper. I don't know how it is in Ireland but here there are businesses that won't even talk to you if you don't have a degree. Having said that there are lots of very successful people here in the US and I'm sure elsewhere who have not gone to colllege or dropped out. I just think you have to work get luckier and work harder if you don't have a college degree.

I rly hope you don't drop out. But it's your life and your decision. I hope for the best, whatever path you choose.

+ 1 million

Get the paper...

A friend of mine got me a job in Q.A. in the I.T. department of a Marketing company about 4 years ago working alongside him. The main difference (at least on paper) was that my friend did not have a college degree, while I did (even though it was in Spanish language arts ). However, his technical knowledge was more advanced than mine, but every step of the way up the department ladder, Human Resources has challenged/denied his promotions while mine have gone through with no hassle.

Not that this is completely attributable to having the college degree, but today, I am in Senior I.T. Management having increased my salary 300+% over 4 years with a high degree of job security while he is at the lowest level of supervisory management and being targeted for layoff...

/kinda sick brag
