Just a quick update to record the fact that Im not addicted to online poker. I had played so much in the last few years, I was a bit concerned how I would feel being away. Its been almost a month, and I have no issues not playing, none really. I still keep up with the forums and watch The Big Game, etc., but I have no burning urge to return, and no Ive not been playing live or doing any other "gambling."

The reason I mention it is that gaming does seem to be a problem for some people. Happily, Im fairly confident Im not one of those persons. I love the game and will return when my financial situation allows it, but Im not dying for action. Its been about a month and it will most likely be a few more months before I can redeposit comfortably. Here again, its 10plo and 25nl so we are not talking big dollars, I was just interested in the pyschological aspect of it. Would I somehow go nuts not playing? Had I gotten myself addicted? Happily the anwswer is no.

I also wanted to record this break in my blog to make it clear to myself that there is nothing wrong with taking a break. Lets say a year from now Im in a bad run, its important to know that taking a break from the games is doable. Its rewarding actually, Im getting alot of random stuff done with my life with the extra time it provides. I would encourage any of you who are struggling in the games to take a break. Poker is difficult when you are playing for money and concentrating on winning, there is a definite mental concentration necessary. All of us need breaks to recharge and re-evaluate what we are doing. Dont hesitate to take a break if you feel it might help. There is alot you can do with the game, like studying , watching etc, that doesnt involve acutally playing.

^^^^ I totally agree with this. I am sort of an action junkie myself and have felt at times that I may be becoming addicted. This is why I force myself to take days off from poker just to show that poker isnt all there is.

Mega Trends, paying attention.

I am a slight loser in the game in 2o1o, and a slight winner in the game with rakeback and bonus. However, I recently had cause to look at the last 12 months of gambling activity.

I noticed that across three sites, there is a definite plunge in my results during Sept and early Oct of last year. That is to say if I look at tilt, stars and absulute, I can see that something was very wrong with my play during that speific time frame. I did poorly over three sites during about a month long time span.

Anyway, I was thinking that had I avoided that downfall, I would be much better off career wise. Kind of like using a stop loss with stocks, I should have had a mechanism in place whereby I could identify consistant bad play, and take steps to change games and or take a break from the game.

So, each of us has to learn the game long term, and my only point is to check out your graphs once in a while to look for trends. Maybe you will see a decline during the holidays or a good streak during the hieght of summer, or whatever. The point is that looking at mega trends in your graphs may be helpful. Everyone looks at month to date, but Im talking year over year here.

Idk, may not be much to it, and I may have just had a stint of inattention or tiredness or something. Nevertheless it cant hurt to look at this sort of thing. I have been on a break for about 7 weeks now, and still feeling fine about it. Ill be back when the time is right financially and I have my mind straight.

In any event, thats only money, and my thoughts have been wholly with Thuy these last few days. Im sure we were all hoping that she would have a cancer free existance after the leg surgery. It was not to be and now she had to have another surgery. I wish her all the best and consider her the finest example of human perserverance and strength of character available lately. She makes my problems and acheivements seem insignificant by comparison. Good Luck Thuy, Never surrender.

Quick update. Two months no pokers. Absolutely sure, 10000000000000% positive I dont have a gambling issue. Id like to play but the money really isnt there atm. I am concerned that whatever skill I had may fade if Im not able to get back to the game soon. Should most likely check out some videos but Im really busy ATM with real life , non poker issues.

The levels I played at really dont make a difference to my financial life, but once I have my house in order there should be alot less pressure to do well. In othewords at that time poker money will be totally recreational money and whilst it would be nice to do well, losing wont make a blip on my financial life. I think all of us should manage bankroll this way. The game is great, and it should be fun even as you try to do well, but it is still extremely risky, so have fun but make sure whatever money you use is totally discretionary.

Did you ever check out the poker school at Stars? It's free and once you get into the Poker League, you can play all these freerolls for points. The point leaders at the end of the month get $.

You could keep up your skills and get a BR started.

Maybe Ill check it out Liz. I really cannot stomach tournements though. I have tried many times to change my attitude about them and made various challenges, etc. I just dont have the mindset for tourneys. Still thou, its probably better than I play somethinig a few times a week just to keep the poker synapses tuned. (such as they are)

Havent played since June, which is fine. Definitely not a problem gambler. Miss annoying Fricke over play of AA preflop however, one downside. Doing lots of "real life" stuff. Looking forward to return to game when finances are right for it. When I make my comeback you'll know. (and dont call it a comeback, cause been here for years) Probably start live as games are softer. Might as well start fresh in 2011 at this point as all promotional incentives are toast. Intend to win 2011 main event, invite poker world to suck my nuts, consider Leslie Chow spoof whilst being interviewed by Layla. Continue living in dream world.

Keep cheeks tight people. Never Surrender.
