2 Hands, Same Opponent and a "bad" fold
This is 16 week league, so I know most of the players. 8 people in the league.
Early hand, 1st week of the league
I have 77 in middle position and limp. Opponent limps.
Flop is 52Q. Opp. bets pot, I call. He likes to slow play, even top pair, so he may not bet if he had a Q.
Turn is Q: Opp. bets 3/4 pot, I call. Less likely he has a Q.
River is J: Opp best about 3/4 again. This time I have to pause. I know this player and he's really good. However, it's very possible he's playing a jack. TJ was obv in his range with a limp. Finally, I know he's easily capable of 3 barrel bluffing if it's not for the majority of his chips (which it's not). I call and he mucks. I flip my 77.
A few hands later, no one has busted. Me and the same guy.
I have TT again, in middle position and raise it up 3 BB. Opp (BB). shrugs and calls and another limper calls.
Flop 489. Both players checks. I bet 3/4 pot and opp. calls (another player calls).
Turn T. This also puts 2 diamonds out there. Opp. bets 1/2 pot. other players calls. I raise to 2.5x the bet, Opp. goes all-in. Other player hems and haws and finally folds. I quickly call, but knowing him I should of put a little more thought into it. He's not one to bluff off his chips. I'm thinking he might have 2 pair with a flush draw, but not sure if he would go all in there, with only 1 card to come.
He asks if I have the bigger straight and I say now and show my set. I say all I need is a 4. Then someone else chimes in that an 8,9 or T would do it, but other players shows that he folded a 9T to lessen my outs.
Turn is a 4 and I bust the opponent and take a big stack.
I end up in 2nd on the night. Would have probably won if I hadn't folded QQ preflop after playing it conservatively.
EP player- New to the league, not really sure how he's playing. I'm assuming since he's new, he's playing a little tight. Haven't seen anything that would make me think so. He min raises. there's a caller.
I think this may be a big hand, so I just call. the SB a player I KNOW is tight, pushes all in (it's about 3 or 4x the raise). Raiser thinks for a few then calls. Caller folds and I tank. If the raiser, who I think is tight and is calling, I'm more worried about KK or AK. I can't imagine the tight all-in doing it lightly. I really think I'm beat and I fold.
THe two flip their cards and show KJ (tight all-in) and QJ (caller). Ouch.
Overall, with my read at the time, I don't mind the fold too much. It's conservative, but more importantly, since they were both all-in, I got some information on them. Tight player is tight, but can make moves (even said he went all in because he was short and wanted the dead limped money) and the new guy isn't as tight or good as I was worried about. I ended up losing HU to the winner of that hand. But I have 15 more weeks to go.
