the cardroom i go to has no cap on buyins. this one time after a guy got stuck like 400 at 1/2, he went to the cage and came back a minute later, told the dealer to deal him in he had chips coming. someone asked how much, he said "plenty". turns out he was getting 1.8k

Well, the reason is that in theory, you could buy into a 1/2 game for a million dollars, shove every hand, and have a near 0 likelihood of losing unless players who double/quadruple/etc up against you leave the table. That said, they WOULD leave once they got too deep for comfort, but casinos don't want players leaving.
At the casino i play in a 1-3-5 NL game thats uncapped, most people buyin for like 2k. They used to have uncapped 5-10 and people would buy in for 7500, but most of the guys with a bunch of money have moved to the 1-3-5plo and 5-10 plo when they can get it off.
I guess that's the best reason. So that the average player doesn't get uncomfortable.
0 likelihood of losing? That doesn't make sense at all.
I still think an online site could have opened up NO LIMIT tables.
Someone online could have, but it does make sense. If you have 100 chips, and I have 1 million, we can move all-in every hand preflop, and you can have the best by an 80/20 margin every time, and i'm a HUUUUUUGE favorite to stack you.
If you sit at a 1/2 table with a million, Everyone has a reasonable amount and you shove every hand: You are saying you're almost 100% leaving the game with more than a million?
I think this is very wrong.
