I know the link was not the best one out there but Justin asked me for the link at the very last minute and I was swamped with work so I just googled it and started reading the first few lines of any one given site, for the one I chose I read the first paragraph and it sounded pretty good so I used it, now that I read the rest of it, it is just a few peices software however they are actually fairly decent software choices.
Oh and Lon, Zone Alarm is a decent enough software firewall, I personally dont use it but I have heard good things about it, thats why I use a Cisco ASA 5505 at my home, you can pick a base model up for around 400-600 (
http://www.provantage.com/cisco-systems-asa5505-bun-k9~7CSCI09X.htm) and this is an enterprise grade firwall solution. Heck you can even pick up a used Cisco PIX 506e for about $150 on ebay.Like I said in the interview if you are going to use online poker as your business then you should treat your security like a business would, by that I mean use business class security products, have a professional give you an assesment and recomendation and have random penetration testing done.
One more note about software firewalls, the thing I dont like about most software firewalls is the fact that some windows services and some programs can actually open up ports that they need without actually telling you and then sometimes they "forget" to close them back down when they are done, Instant Messaging programs are notorius for this.
Even on "firewalls" that come with that linksys router of yours this happens through UPNP where programs can make forwarding entries into your firewall and you would never even know it. And that is just one reason I hate consumer grade routers, I really dont understand buying one when you can pick up a Cisco 800 series router for about 50-100 bucks on ebay and these even come with a security IOS that includes a very decent firewall feature set, not to mention remote access VPN and site to site VPN options. Now granted most people dont know how to setup a Cisco router or firewall, but there are tons of books out there that will help you with the basics, the one I recomend would be the Cisco IOS cookbook, which gives you command by command instructions on how to setup various features on a Cisco router.
Geez I cant belive I went on and on like that, I was just popping in to reply to the whole link at the bottom thing and this is what happens I start a rant about technology, well if anyone has any questions feel free to ask here or send me a private message.
