Ok I think Ty cracked this one right at the start. 1994 owns for films: Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, The Crow, Interview with the Vampire and Lion King. No wonder this thread never got off the ground, the answer was in the first four posts.

On a side note 1994 easily wins in regards to films from New Zealand with Heavenly Creatures and Once Were Warriors, two of my country's greatest films.

Yeah, 1939 tends to be the year that most agree about.

ALSO in addition to the above, one has the intl breakout vehicle for John Wayne in Stagecoach, the film the govt of the US did not want to go intl, Mr Smith Goes To Washington, and Ninotchka and Of Mice and Men to boot.

If it hadn't been for WW2, especially with concerns of metals being used for color film, this would have been an even bigger tech leap year for film than it was and it would have been interesting to see how Europe could keep up with the US market.

For me, it was David Lean who was able to retain this original progress and style until funds were back up to par in the mid to later 50s to once again crank out the true Big Hollywood productions......even if they had to go to Pinewood.

I had to delete the last post because of the spam link but the message contained was interesting:

Secrets & Lies, Shine Sling, and Blade are the best movies of the year for my point of view.
I like how he separated Sling Blade and still had me doubting myself on when Blade came out. But the most interesting thing is just how old is this spambot?

1996, man.

Story checks out.

I mean, is that really possible? Spam that has been circulating for 16 years?

Is Shine from 1996?

Yep.

Sheesh, I think I was still using CompuServe and making the transition to IRC.

I hadn't even met my second wife on Asian Friend Finder until 1998.

Is Blade that movie with Wesley Snipes? I went to watch that but don't know a damn thing about it as I promptly fell asleep within 5 minutes.

Yeah, he is a vampire hunter....I think it was from a comic book series.

I wish I had the luxury of falling asleep in the first five minutes. Instead, I had to bother myself to turn it off after twenty minutes.

Wow. Now that I think about it, that was about the time I stopped renting flicks.

I can recall renting Secrets and Lies.....hmm....Return of the King was the last movie we actually went to a theater to see.

Yes it is true - I have not seen a new 3D movie.

Nonetheless, I am caught up with Moneyball, Ides of March, Driver, Descendants, Tree of Life, the Help....

FWIW my first out of the box choice for Flick o' the Year was Tree of Life.

The Help, Drive and Ides did not change that opinion, but Descendants did....

Then Moneyball showed the socialist side of business and that was pretty cool, complete with Clash posters and Joe Strummer pictures.....

And that makes me think DAMMIT Descendants is actually a socialist pic, too.

Tie between Descendants and Moneyball because of the babes.

I dunno, what do you think about Art Howe?
