I've had bad luck with department stores -- one place (a defunct place called Gottschalk's) refused to service any watch you didn't buy from their store, while another one royally screwed up a Fossil I got from my brother as a gift.
I just took it to a jeweler. Two links from the six o'clock side and I'm in business. We have a mom & pop store in town that has been at it for 30 years. The owner, Andy, paid Tyresias a compliment as he was adjusting it:
Andy: This is a damn fine timepiece.
Me: I'll be honest, I'd never heard of Sea-Gull until a friend recommended it.
Andy: Most people have never heard of Sea-Gull.
Me: I had a few specs that I wanted, the others I didn't care much about, and this was at the top of my list in my price range.
Andy: Well, your friend knows his watches.
But here's something weird: this watch cost me $229. I just looked at my receipt. When I went back to the site last night (to find out how/where to get it adjusted), I saw the price at $299. Even now when I click that link, it says $299. Not sure if I inadvertently got lucky with my timing.
Anyway, thanks for the recommendation!
