Love this clip.

Last year, I wrote an article about a former NASA scientist (and UC Davis grad) who had extensive background in statistics and quantitative analysis. He loved his work but he also loved baseball. When the book Moneyball came out, he realized he might be able to combine his two passions. Long story short, after some persistence and patience, he got hired by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2005, using his expertise to create computer models that help predict talent for use in the amateur draft.

This story reminds me a little of that.

Kaufman mentioned early in that clip that he could use someone who understands the science behind the startup biotech companies, a skill set his finance wizards don't have. Similarly, when I interviewed Cardinals VP Jeff Luhnow for my article, he said he needed someone who could analyze the unprecedented amount of baseball data available, a skill set his scouts don't have.

Both men are shrewd enough to think beyond the normal channels of expertise in giving his respective employer -- whether it be John Thomas Financial or the St. Louis Cardinals -- an advantage over the competitors.

Matt, you must be very proud of your dad. Is there a Wall Street equivalent to a World Series ring? I hope he gets it because of this.

I think you just get money.

Am proud of him though, the sheer volume of stupid anti-everything blogs that have ****ted on it as a publicity stunt is kinda insane; in actuality she was working there for a month and the CEO's PR person heard what happened and went "holy ****, how have we not gone to a newspaper with this?!"

They also turned down a bunch more TV places that wanted to turn it into more of a debate and grill her about her views and **** like that. Vultures =P.
