Default The Poker Beat - June 14

It's a special Poker Beat this afternoon with BJ Nemeth taking the reins again.

I'm sure the Ladies' event will get the bulk of the discussion today, especially when Shaun Deeb and a few other guys entered the field.

I think we need to re-educate people on the PokerSpot debaucle thanks for Dutch's win.

Which brings up prescription meds vs. performance enhancing meds.

Which brings up "Year of the Douche Bag" and why its in the running for this year's "Year Of"

The Blitzerian v. Joy Miller feud. Hard one to take sides on here, but BJ and Jess pull no punches!!

Final thought: Fantasy Poker -- does anyone care?

Happy to chime in from here, drop me a line.

Dan Bilzerian Banned from ESPN - Poker News - News, Views and Gossip

Cliffs: Blitz posts joke from Gran Torino, Joy threatens racist ban from ESPN coverage for all of Victory Poker. As the thread develops incidents/photo's of Joy being very unprofessional take center stage.

Based on this thread so far, gonzo69 will not be attending any Blizerian family functions at any time soon.

It took a while for the Bilzerian/Miller dispute to build. The offensive tweet happened on the 10th, Miller saw it almost a day later, wanting to have a talk with him. Apparently Bilzerian and Victory Poker got into it with Miller, then she made her claims, she's not an ESPN employee and has no say in "banning people from ESPN" per Andrew Feldman, NVG blows up.

Today's episode is heavily focused on the Ladies Event, and we are saving most of the news of the week for the regular Thursday show with Scott Huff in the driver's seat.

This episode definitely had a different feel to it, and I'm very curious to hear what all of y'all think.

Just went through that entire thread, mostly for entertainment value. As usual for internet forums, the discussion goes right off the rails in many places. Somewhere, there is a forum that works in a less linear way. That is, for any initial post, there are multiple threads (e.g. one for smart-ass remarks, one for intelligent discussion, etc.) that branch from it. Mike Johnson and Adam Schwartz would be among the few in the latter chain.

I suppose if there is any further discussion to be had -- after all, the actual dispute between Miller and Bilzerian is rather inane at this point -- is whether or not there is or should be a code of conduct for sponsored players to represent their site well. But even then, that might be a dead end. After all, Bilzerian's Twitter does not seem to have any mention of Victory Poker, and Victory Poker seems to relish the idea of its pros being edgy and/or controversial.

On the flip side, it also makes me wonder if some poker media outlets are SO desperate for talent that Miller continues to find work despite her equally unprofessional demeanor in what appears to be many instances. (By the way, I'm not talking about the goofy party photos.) I know little about her, but if a working member of the media ever interacted with one of my student-athletes in the manner she did with Terrence Chan or Jon Turner, he/she would lose the media credential while being shown the door.

Bah, perhaps there really isn't much constructive out of this one. From what I'm gathering, the respect level for each party is rather low. Following this, with a nod to Dennis Miller, would be like watching an episode of Top Chef between the guys who make hospital food and airline food.

By the way, BJ... I don't think it has been mentioned very much in the forums, but I've enjoyed the shows you've hosted. Steering the ship is never as easy as people think, but those episodes have been very strong.
