Default The Poker Beat - August 19

Some possible topics for this week's show:

Welman and Michalski run well at the Detox Poker Series
WPT Legends of Poker at the Bike starts this weekend
Also, a new season of the WSOP Circuit starts today
US DOJ seizes over $13m from payment processor w/ ties to PokerStars and other online gambling sites
Dwan Challenge part 2 v Jungleman due to start soon
Gus Hansen isn't running well
Kevin Stani wins EPT Tallinn
Is age 7 too young to get involved in poker?

Some of this may appear on this week's Poker Beat, appearing on Itunes Thursday afternoon.

In regards to the 7 year old Alexa.
Quote:
She's not able to play in casinos yet, but she's already started a bank account for winnings from games at home against her family. Throw in the fact that she chose to go to the World Series of Poker for the family vacation this summer, and you've got someone who we'll all need to be looking out for in a few years.
If they do discuss this, I'm sure BJ will have lots to say on this subject. I found it deplorable how her father allowed her to be at the casino pretty much roaming the halls almost 24 hours a day. I've seen her there at 5 in the morning and she looked dead tired in the hallways of The Rio with her dad. It was bordering on exploitation and abuse imo.

Well, you have fathers that live vicariously through their children via sports...I suppose in that aspect this isn't too much different. Just don't plan on ever seeing youth poker leagues crop up.

On a selfish level, this story sucks because we don't need a "somebody think of the children" battle regarding poker right now. On a unselfish level, let the kid have a life plz.

I hate this dad, but I hate the people who chose to report this even more.
This story makes poker look beyond awful in so many ways.

Dropping out of elementary school to grind full-time would be baller though.

Totally agree that it's irresponsible parenting. Would like to see Harrah's take a more proactive stance against this kind of thing.

I suppose this could be the genesis of a new series of commercials for Harrahs: "Our staff is trained to watch for problem gamblers. Also, we have a new line of logo rompers available for the kids."
