Now that you mention it, I feel like the name de la Santos suffers from a singular/plural mismatch and a gender mismatch. The
la article would suggest a singular feminine noun. But
santos, the Spanish word for "saints," is plural and masculine.
Of course, I suppose the name could be Del Santo (a singular saint, forcing the
de and
el to converge into one word). Or, more commonly, the name could be De Los Santos (the plural noun matches the plural article). And someone at the U.S. immigration office botched the spelling generations ago. Happens all the time.
And none of this explains why someone with the name Janette De Los Santos would use the initials "JDNS" rather than "JDLS" for an online handle.
