Default How Did PokerRoad Die

Is it just me, or has the energy and enthusiasm of PRR died? I remember when PRR said they were going to give me an insiders view into the world of professional poker. I had to find out Gavin had a new girlfriend, and that she was pregnant on another podcast. Want to know which player is busto? PRR actually never told us who. Turns out it was Gavin. Further, never knew that Gavin was backed by Eric Lindgren until one of Gavins last episodes. How insider is that? PRR used to be appointment listening. Now, the only consistant thing to listen to on the site is The Poker Beat, which, is now their gold standard. I love the B Team because they have energy and talk strategy. But, they are rarely on air. Cash Plays is solid, but again, never consistently on. My guess is that Joe and Barry just missed the poker boon with this site and are trying to stay afloat long enough to see if there is another poker boon. I hope there is because I sure miss the old PRR enthusiam.

i mean i wouldnt say die,.....

I personally loved small stakes grinder by spartan. I almost wonder if anyone would be willing ( with spartan's permission of course) to start that back up. there still is nothing like the hand of the day and general beginner level strat podcasts that SSG brought.

I mean if you want strat to listen to, join a coaching site. DC has tournamentality. Im sure CR has the same kinda thing. what more do you want for free????

The people who work/contribute to things on Pokerroad always plug their other projects which is fine. But what bugs me and what doesn't help the site is that they never get to (from what Ican see) plug Pokerroad on these side projects. I watched most of season one of Poker2Nite and I don't think Pokerroad was ever mentioned. Not even when Gavin was interviewed and they guys talked about a prop bet first mentioned publicly on pokerroad radio. Same goes with the big game which is being talked about every week on Two Jacks and mentioned on other Road shows. Joe can't get a mention of the Road of the Jacks in on Big Game other than a couple of subliminal ones. Doesn't Barry part own this place, why didn't anyone suggest he wear a Pokerroad patch on Big Game, giving Joe a chance to talk about the site?
I don't watch much tv poker but in the WSOP stuff I have seen I don't remember anyone other than Sebok and Ivey wearing Pokerroad gear on TV. Get some patches on some people ffs. There are several pros who have contributed regularly to poker road now or in the past. Even if it's Escalante playing his limit tourney. Maybe someone will ask him what it's for and he can try to convert the guy (for want of a better term).
And where the hell did the redpro forum go and how can we get it back?

Cliff notes: tldr, plug this site on your shows, wear some patches, bring back red pro forum.

There was an entire interstitial segment devoted to PR during an episode of the WSOP. It did nothing.

As someone who has launched many projects that never really caught, I'll say this: there's pretty much nothing you can do to "make" things catch. They simply do or they don't.

Hard to say what effect it had. No, it did not bring an onslaught of new forum members, or we would have seen it. But for all we know it nudged a few curious fans to take a peek.

Besides, I still think the majority of those who watch the WSOP on TV tend to fall into three main categories:
1. ESPN fans who saw it 'cause, well, it's on ESPN. (These people probably are found in bars and waiting rooms.)
2. Casual fans who enjoy watching the WSOP and perhaps other televised poker but don't follow poker much more closely than that. I'll admit this was me prior to PokerRoad.
3. Diehard fans who devour all things poker-related. This includes all of us -- anyone who went through the trouble of creating a forum membership at any site probably falls into this category.

The first group would have little interest in PokerRoad. Of the second, maybe a couple people visited the site and checked out some of the content. The third group already knows about it.

Agree, agree, agree a hundred times. It's the classic proverb of leading a horse to water.
