Barry never said he doesn't change his play based on the size of the ante.

The problem with using just M is that you will come up with spots of identical M's where the pot odds for the BB and SB are both different, as well as implied odds.

BB's and antes need to be factored into "the formula" separately. Lumping them together in terms of M's leaves out an important part of the picture.

Trying to calculate M on the fly at the table is just an unnecessary hassle. I always think in terms of BBs but of course take into account if there are antes/the size of the antes.
