Default LAPC $10k Flush v. Matusow Early

75-150, 20k starting stacks, table is a tougher than average table but nobody's controlling the table.

UTG (40k) opens to 400, named Tony I think, older guy, I don't know him, has made some goofy overbets and non-standard plays thus far. Matusow knows him personally.

Hijack calls, cutoff calls, Chad Brown on the button calls, Matusow (18.5k) calls, I (25k) call in the big blind with 94.

Flop (2400) Q93. Checks through.

Turn (2400): 6. Matusow bets 3k in 3 1k chips, and it's a mistake. He either meant to bet 2 1k chips or 3 500 chips. 100% accurate read, confirmed later in the hand when Mike says "I made a mistake". Matusow has been loud but super nitty tight thus far. I take about 40 seconds and call, UTG calls pretty quickly.

River (11,400): Brick. Matusow thinks for 30-45 seconds and bets 5k with 10k and change behind. I vomit.

I dont really think Mike would put that much of his stack at risk this early without a bigger flush then yours. This is a pretty sick spot but I think the correct play is to just fold.

What was your plan when you called the turn, were you trapping?

Also do you ever consider reraising the turn here?

It's hard to reraise when there isn't a raise already.

I like the line, now shove after tanking for a long time.

In my opinion your limit holdem background gets you into a crappy spot here devo, your preflop price is clearly good but being out of position with such a poor holding multiway this deep-stacked will cause a lot of problems for you, the reverse implied odds are too great, not to mention everyone loves to play suited aces etc so even when you hit your hand you tend to hate life often, calling in spots like these also tends to increase your variance greatly.

As played I would just call river. I think Mike is more than capable of value betting 2 pair hands and sets, but he is probably not going to call a shove with those holdings after betting into 2 people on the river. I think he will probably call you some % of the time with smaller flushes if you shove and will also find a fold with smaller flushes a % of the time. Every time we are beat we obviously get called. I think there is not a ton of value to raising the river so just call.

mike is a huge nit spots where hes allin, def dont raise as hes not calling worse. I think its an easy river flat esp with the guy behind you who might overcall etc.

As amak said i don't like preflop either. id call 96s though

But is he folding better? And does he ever have the nut flush here?

Ya, preflop sucks but it's not a gigantic error if 96s is a call.

FWIW I don't think Mike has the nuts on the river ever and not often a flush.
