WSOP2011 Coverage on ESPN (oh hell yeah)
From AP-
Quote:
By OSKAR GARCIA, Associated Press Oskar Garcia, Associated Press – 11 mins ago
LAS VEGAS – ESPN is boosting coverage of the World Series of Poker less than one month after backing away from two online poker companies considered heavily influential in the industry.
The cable network was to announce Wednesday that it planned 34 hours of semi-live television coverage for the series' no-limit Texas Hold 'em main event on ESPN2 and ESPN, on a 30-minute tape delay with hole cards shown.
The announcement comes after the network said it was moving away from deals with PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, online poker companies whose executives face allegations of bank fraud and money laundering. ESPN said those moves didn't affect plans for the series, owned by Caesars Entertainment Corp.
The move is also significant because poker isn't normally aired live or near-live with hole cards shown.

Wow, this is great. I fully expected them to put these events on TV - but its nice to see they are going to make improvements too.

Makes sense. That time of the year is super slow for sports coverage.

Can anyone venture a guess on how many viewers, of what's essentially the world championship of poker, gets in the US? I have no idea how popular it actually is, outside of those who got caught along with Chris Moneymaker.

My dad doesnt even play poker, but he loves to watch it on tv,he's been asking me why there isnt to much poker on? so he cant wait...And he's one of those old guys who yells at the tv while watching sports..Nothing better than hearing your dad saying, come on ivey call this kid and stop wasting time! but his favorite show is hsp,the hand when ivey folded to durrrs huge 250+ bluff on the river,He musta said" call ivey",come on kid just call! 100 times...i think phil owes my dad a tv,he threw the remote at it and disowned phil as his other son

Bumping this thread: the almost-live coverage of the Main begins on ESPN2 tomorrow. Set your DVRs, call in sick, etc.
Perhaps I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but it is finally sinking in how cool this could be as a "game-changer" (as Andrew Feldman calls it). We've been reading about it for a few months, and TDoodle's thread served as yet another reminder. I enjoyed the PCA final table coverage and this is an even bigger undertaking.
Plus, I might turn the whole David Tuchman "ooo-kay" thing into a drinking game to make THAT bearable.
