Default ESPN WSOP: Main Event Day 7

Hour 1 preview
Hour 2 preview

Don't know if days 7 and 8 will get the three part treatment, but it's definitely two hours of day 7 coverage tonight. Darvin Moon finally made his appearance at a TV table, tangling with Dennis Phillips. Almost every player in the November Nine has been featured, except for Antoine Saout (which means he's probably going to win, since the same happened with Peter Eastgate).

Gary Wise has an article up on ESPN.com about Blair Rodman, a player known for getting it quietly.

Was interesting to see Moon and Ivey having a chat before play started on Day 7.

That was pretty cool.

But nothing compared to seeing the "Got Shronk" T-shirt on Seebs right from the top of the broadcast.

I'm kinda starting to like Darvin Moon and his working man charm. He's not my first choice to win the ME but a good guy deserves to have good things happen to him.

The hand Darvin played against Antonio (AQ v. KJ) was disapointing, because in interviews he said he made a move because thought Antonio was making a move on him. Not a move...wanted to see Darvin prove he doesn't just catch cards.

Are they even going to show Sauot? He got his 1st mention but hasn't been shown. I'm with Lon, he's your winner.

I was thinking this exactly when he made that huge raise with KK, and Antonio asked him if he liked his hand.

It will be interesting how much more personality comes out in upcoming broadcasts, but you're absolutely right about him having a certain working-man's-hero appeal.

I think Ryan Fair is kind of a creep.

We're starting to see quite a bit of Darvin Moon and Billy Kopp (at separate tables) and this is leading up to the big hand that many are anticipating with the crazy flush over flush hand.

During the action in July, there was a lot of discussion about that hand in the Live Tournaments forum and I made the case that Kopp's play of the baby flush was so bad because of Moon's nittiness without huge hands. So far, we are seeing Moon get many of the big hands as we heard about in July and we also know that Moon does nothing but A. Tell everybody at the table that he has gotten hit in the face with the deck and B. Show his cards almost every time. Kopp had not played with Darvin much before the hand that led to his elimination, and I wonder if Darvin had declared to him how lucky he was getting.

One other side note to keep an eye on: the tournament reporting on the upcoming flush over flush hand had the board pairing on the turn when all the money subsequently gets in the middle. On ESPN's Poker Edge podcast, Darvin Moon declared in no uncertain terms that the board did NOT pair. This ought to be interesting to see who got it right.

Default To The Moon Alice!

Count me as one who really enjoyed Darvin Moon in these two episodes. About time they showed him!!! His exchange with Esfandiari with the big KK reraise was hilarious. His reponse, "I don't know, I just glanced at my hand" was classic. Based on Antonio's reaction after he folded and saw the KK it appeared that he was close to shoving with his jacks. Moon is playing the "aw, gee, shucks" role well and the thing is, it's sincere.

I was surprised at Moon's answers to Antonio's standard "why so much?" question (saying that he glanced at his hand and that he's new at this and over-raises and under-raises).

I don't think Antonio is ever calling there vs Moon with JJ. It is really tough for him to call off practically all of his stack after an open shove and a re-raise to 5 million (which was half of Moon's stack). Antonio doesn't know anything about Moon at this time, but I think he has to assume that this guy is an extreme TAG and just fold the JJ. It's actually a really easy fold because I don't know how he doesn't show up with QQ+ or AK there.

By the way, one thing I like to watch on these episodes are the guys with big stacks at 10 million+ who don't even end up making the final 2 tables. Jonathan Tamayo is interesting after he gets sucked out on by Buckman with his KK<88 and then he goes nuts with an unimproved AK vs Kopp's trip queens (Tamayo was still in at 27, but crippled after being around 11 million in chips).
