Ashton Griffin Newest NAPT High Roller Champ
February 28, 2022
The highly unusual $25,000 buy-in PokerStars North American Poker Tour Bounty Shootout event, concluded recently at the Venetian Casino, with Ashton Griffin as the final player sitting.

Griffin, who beat a first table with such tough players as Joe Cada, Jason Mercier and Chris Moneymaker to earn the right to sit at the final, was ulitmately able to outlast 6 other top players who also beat their initial tables full of invite only pros- a format that created arguably one of the toughest “High Roller” final tables seen in some time.

The seven players, who each earned $75,000 for making it to the final table, included Joe Cassidy, Peter Eastgate, Faraz Jaka, Scott Seiver, Hoyt Corkins, Brett Richey and of course the young online pro Mr. Griffin.

Each of these players collected at least one $5,000 bounty to get to the final table stage, with most earning more, however the bounty lead was held by Scott Seiver, who entered the final with 6 bounties after single handedly eliminating every opponent of his first table.  With those six bounties, Seiver was the clear odds on favorite to win the $100,000 bonus donated by PokerStars for the player with the most eliminations to their credit, and sure enough by the time play had ended, Seiver’s final tally of 8 victims was more than enough to secure him the $100K prize.

Seiver was eliminated in fourth place, but given the unique winner-take-all structure of the final table, and his bounty bonus, he ended the tournament with the second largest cash worth $215,000.  In comparison, the player who actually took second place- losing in heads-up play to Griffin- was poker legend Hoyt Corkins, walking away with “only” $100,000 ($75,000 for reaching final table + $25,000 for 5 bounties).

Seiver’s score made entering this $25,000 buy-in event clearly a good decision, but it was nothing compared to Griffin’s, who ended his day with 6 bounties and a second table win, to earn a top cash worth $560,000- the largest live cash of his poker career.

The final table payouts and finish positions for the PokerStars NAPT High Roller Bounty Shootout Invitational were as follows:

1st.  Ashton Griffin- $560,000 ($455,000 + $75,000 + $30,00 in bounties)
