Climbing the Charts: How to Get Love on the Pocketfives' Online Rankings

The question is always being asked, "How do I get ranked on www.pocketfives.com?" It seems as if this is the site players turn to when they want to know who is doing well in the online community. The Pocketfives guys actually have a pretty well thought out system when it comes to ranking tournament players.  First off, all you need to do to even be considered for rankings is to make a P5s account that includes your online user names, then start playing tournaments that satisfy the site's ranking criteria.  Yeah, it's that easy. The worldwide rankings are based on three factors: Recent Results, Opinion of their Peers, and Previous Rank.  You can also find the Pocketfives Leader Board calculator on the website which can help you determine scores yourself. So start getting ranked! Here are the formulas used:

PLB Scores only apply to ITM finishes.

PLB Formula:
Points = (PrizePool1/2) / (PlaceFinished3/5)

Excel Formula:
Cell A1 = Prize Pool
Cell A2 = Place Finished
Points = POWER(A1, 1/2) / POWER(A2, 3/5))

Howard Lederer vs. Gobboboy!
Can you say "drama?"  Jimmy 'Gobboboy' Fricke can.  The 19 year-old, who finished second to Gus Hansen in last year's Aussie Millions main event, has had the forums buzzing the past couple of weeks thanks to a thread that he posted about...himself (sort of).  The title of the post was, "Beat: Am a freak and a very weird dude."  What's this all mean you might ask?  Well, apparently Jimmy wrote an email to FullTilt Poker about possibly sponsoring the “Gobboboy" for this year's upcoming Aussie Millions event, but what should have been a simple business inquiry turned into much more thanks to a slight emailing snafoo.  Below is Fricke's post, in it's entirety, from www.twoplustwo.com ...
"I'm not sure this is the right email address for this, so if there's a better person to send this to please forward it to them.

Hi, I'm Jimmy Fricke, and I took 2nd in the Aussie Millions tournament last year and received a large amount of television coverage. I'm coming back for all the tournaments this year, and was curious if Full Tilt would be interested in sponsoring me in some of the events or maybe the main event in exchange for wearing full tilt gear and maybe some other things. I'm unaffiliated with all sites right now and I have a bunch of friends coming to the tournament who are strong online tournament players who also have no affiliation. Let me know if you're interested in doing business.

Take care,
Jimmy."

I got a response a little bit later saying that they don't respond to every message about solicitations, blah blah blah, but they'll contact me if they're interested. This message just popped up in my inbox:

"Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of Full Tilt Poker. Unfortunately FTP does not take open solicitations from players wishing to join the team. It is an invite only process that does not have set
standards or qualifications. In the future, if we are interested in adding you as a FTP representative we will contact you directly. We wish you the best of luck and we hope to see you at a final table soon.”

I'm like okay, whatever, I had to expect it. I peruse the rest of the email and discover that this genius had included an email that Howard Lederer sent to him regarding his final decision. This is that email:

"From: Howard Lederer
Sent: Sat 11/3/2007 7:21 PM
To: Rxxxx Wxxx; Rxxxx Bxxx
Cc: Jxxxx Nxxx
Subject: RE: Aussie Millions. (KMM4237266I19928L0KM)

The guy's a freak and a very weird dude. He is also quite young. I think we should stay away.

-Howard

My new email address is XXXX@XXXX.com . My "XXXXXX.com" address will not work soon. Please update my contact info accordingly. Thanks."

My email to Howard (at his new email no less) contained the above email plus:

"You should probably tell your employees not to send out correspondence with you when they're rejecting an offer from someone. Seems like it'd be bad for business. Professionalism first, eh? Look forward to playing in your tournament."

Yuck! The guy accidently attached Howard's email when he sent the reply back to Fricke. There were mixed feelings about the reason Jimmy Fricke posted this email publicly. Was it to draw attention to himself? Was Gobboboy seeking revenge on FullTilt for their disparaging remarks? Now this is no doubt a silly mistake on the part of the employee who forwarded Jimmy the message, but can we honestly judge Howard for having an opinion expressed in what he believed was a private email?  Guess this is the internet version of "loose lips..."
