Poker VT – The Internet Technowizardry
|

|
In this third, and final, installment of the PokerVT.com review, I will get to the Internet instruction section. To those of you who are clamoring for more traditional Pokerazzi (see: my mother), rest assured that now that we’re in a bit of a rhythm here at the WASSUP, I will get back to writing about prop bets, online wins, and sex (ok, probably not sex).
ONLINE POKER INSTRUCTION FROM WINNING ONLINE PROS
The strength of this section is absolutely going to depend on the stable of instructors Daniel has chosen. I personally got to witness Annette Obrestad smash every person in sight in the Main Event of the WSOPE, and it was DAMN impressive. Paul Wasicka is another member of the team, and Paul has done more than prove his ability to win online and live. Joining them are JC Alvarado, Justin “BoostedJ” Smith, and Adam Junglen; the latter two you may not have heard of, but should. Daniel also has a section that focuses mostly on how to adapt his “small ball” strategy to online play. |
REAL TIME THOUGHT PROCESS
I started with the section that looked the most different than the others, and I’m glad I did. This section features videos of Daniel Negreanu and Adam Junglen playing against each other in a heads-up SNG . How is this different than all the other online instructional videos? Well, good Sir or Madame, Daniel and Adam played from separate locations, but BOTH recorded audio commentary as they played. The means you’re getting to see BOTH sets of hole cards, AND getting to hear alternating commentary from the players.
Hearing each player comment on what they think the other player is thinking, and then getting to hear if they are right or not, is at the very least endlessly entertaining, and could quite possibly be the best way I’ve seen of revealing the metagame that is so prevalent and necessary in heads-up poker. At one point Daniel says, “One of the things I gotta be conscious of is that obviously Adam knows a lot about the way I play, so I have to figure out a way to use that against him.” That’s basically metagame in a nutshell. |
 |
As of now, there is only one session with Adam and Daniel in this section (but even so, that one session has a truckload of great info and is a ton of fun to watch).
OTHER ONLINE SECTIONS
The other online sections are pretty much what you would expect (and what you've come to know) from online instructional sites. Daniel has a TON of content in his section – everything from $20 heads-up SNG, to $100/$200 no-limit cash games, to a $5k heads-up SNG. In the low-limit games, he focuses on specifically how to exploit the mistakes low-limit players make (overplaying the button, playing too many hands out of position, etc). |

|
Annette’s section currently has six segments (six separate videos of Annette multi-tabling SNGs and MTTs on Betfair Poker). Annette walks you through her plays in these tournaments while also critiquing her opponents’ play.
Adam Junglen’s section overflows with a bit more content, featuring a
|
whopping forty-eight videos across six different “lessons.” The lessons include: "Think Stack Size and Play Position Poker"; "Pick Your Battles and Give Yourself a Chance"; "Multi-Tasking, Position Bets"; "Analyzing Your Betting Patterns"; "Vary Your Play"; and a full replay of Adam’s PokerStars Sunday Million win, complete with commentary. Adam uses his math-based analysis to break down all sorts of tournaments, from 6-max, to full ring, and even turbos. Adam is great at taking specific situations in these tournaments and using them to illustrate broader tournament concepts (see: lesson titles).
JC Alvarado takes us in a different direction as most of his videos focus on cash games. He has a twenty-one video section called “Playing With the Pros, Money Management” that I found particularly interesting. JC and Adam also have Q&A sections.
Justin Smith (“BoostedJ”) breaks down his high-stakes cash game play, and Paul Wasicka reviews some of his past hands to round out the online video section.
POSITIVE EV: The thought process sections featuring Adam and Daniel’s crossfire of metagame would be enough for this section to be ultra-valuable on its own, Adam’s tournament lessons are incredibly instructional
NEGATIVE EV: Would love more content in Annette’s section, BoostedJ (although he gives out loads of great content) isn’t as articulate and listenable as I would have liked.
EQUITY: 100-0 - Not even a video of Andre the Giant playing .01/.02 Razz could cancel out how good the Junglen/Negreanu cross-commentary was on this one. Total freeroll. |
