WPT Borgata, End of Day 1; Atlantic City, NJ

I rolled into Borgata late last night extremely tired. It's never a good idea to fly West to East and have a tournament to play the very next day, but that is of course what I did. I have just had too much stuff going on with PokerRoad to come in that extra day ahead of time to acclimate.

Unfortunately, despite my tiredness, I was totally unable to sleep very much and probably nodded off around 6am, giving myself only 4 hours of sleep, or so. I did manage to drag my lazy ass out of bed this morning and roll down to the tournament room to be greeted by...Bear at my table. What in the name of fly wings? The odds of this are low and it still somehow seems to happen way too often for my tastes. We are always both a little hamstrung when put in this position, so it really sucks and hurts our games.

Sadly, for him, he busted early though, but it did free me up to play a little more my game without worrying about him. I don't think I had the most eventful day at all. I got up to about 37k pretty quickly, but then lost a bunch back on a knuckleheaded play where I tried to squeeze two players out of a hand where I was quite confident that I had the original raiser beat. I did, but the other player came in from the side and got me Raptor-style. I was forced to call his all in because of the odds I was getting and was suddenly down to about 22k. From that point on I just went on a sick tear and managed to run my stack up to about 150k, which will probably be good for top 5 when the counts are posted.

It was a good day, despite all the tiredness, and I am stoked. I was lucky enough to have one of my partners in crime, John Phan, move to my table late in the day. Well, lucky enough to have him there to help keep me awake, but unlucky enough to have him two to my left with a monster chip stack. I was fortunate though, as we didn't really play any pots together and I was able to keep building my stack up. We did get the table cracking up and having a great time though. Online Poker is always more fun when you have John drinking at your table...

So, that's it yo. I'ma grab some grub and relax and get ready for tomorrow. Hopefully it goes the same way... Poker TV

peace,
J

PS- On a completely unrelated note, I think that I am going to do some snowboarding in February during my time off from playing. I haven't been in literally years, and I miss it pretty desperately. When I lived in San Francisco I used to go up to Tahoe every other weekend for a few years. I miss it, baby! Maybe we can shoot an episode of "Destination Unknown" up there...
