Just started, er, finished up playing in the FTOPS $2500 event...and man, was it a satisfying 30 minutes.

I hate when tournaments go so quick and brutal like that. I picked up Kings and had them beat by a flopped set of 4's and then made top two with K10diamonds vs. a made straight on the turn. I don't think there was much I could have done about the K10 hand, but I probably could have lost less on the Kings one.

Some people will always tell you that you should be able to get away from hands like that, but I don't really follow that philosophy when it comes to tournament online poker. Of course there are always hands that you can get away from, but in my mind, you need to keep accumulating chips and you don't do that by making laydown after laydown. You look like a genius when you lay those hands down, but nothing ever gets said about the tournaments where you languish and can't get anything going because you were never willing to take any risks. That's the downside of playing that conservatively.

At any rate, now I have the rest of today to fill up. I'm frantically trying to sew up the last of our WSOP deals to bring you guys some interesting content on PokerRoad.com. We will be adding our own "blogfessionals" page from the World Series this year, as well as some unique Phil Ivey content that you can't get anywhere else, as he just wouldn't do it for anyone else. All good stuff coming down the pipeline. We will also be adding an entirely new radio program or two, so stay tuned for that as well.

I'm going to see The Raconteurs tomorrow night, so that should be good times. I think their stuff dwarfs what Jack White has done with The White Stripes big time, in terms of actual music at least. The Stripes have that innovation thing going for them, but I just miss bass, man. There's a reason that it exists in music...

I'm heading out to Vegas next weekend, so be looking for some updates from there starting then...

peace,
J
