Irish Open Begins

The 2009 Irish Open presented by, began today in Dublin, Ireland with hundreds of top players committing EUR3,200 each, for a shot at taking down one of Europe's most respected tournaments.

Last year's Irish Open was taken down by Neil "Bad Beat" Channing for over $1,200,000, after defeating a total field of 667 entrants.  This year's event is expected to attract an even larger turnout, which could create a total prize pool worth nearly $5,000,000.
Some of the players confirmed to be in attendance at this year's Irish Open, according to the live tournament blog presented, include Brian Townsend, Phil Laak, Dan Harrington, Alan Smurfit, Jennifer Tilly, Jamie Gold and Andy Black.
