WASSUP '09: Lunkin Wins The $40K
June 1, 2022

The final table of the first open event of the 2009 World Series of Poker concluded last night, and if the caliber of that final table is any indication, were in for one intense month and a half of poker action.

The final table of Event #2, the 40th Annual No Limit Hold 'em, yesterday held not only some of the best live players to ever grace the green felt but some of the most notorious and feared online phenoms as well.  Among the players at that final table sat 2004 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Raymer, Isaac Haxton, Dani "Ansky" Stern, "Professor Backwards" Ted Forrest, Lex "RaSZi" Veldhuis, Noah Schwartz, Alec "traheho" Torelli and PokerRoad's own Justin Bonomo.  Also sitting at that final table was 2008 WSOP bracelet winner Vitaly Lunkin, a tough Russian player who used his fierce, aggressive style to build his stack throughout the night, despite showing down very few hands and personally knocking out only one of the eight competitors, of course it was the most important one, Isaac Haxton- the last competitor standing in his way of victory.

For the win Lunkin earned an astounding $1,891,012 and his second WSOP bracelet in two years.

The final table finish results for Event #2 of the 2009 WSOP were as follows:

1st.  Vitaly Lunkin- $1,891,012

2nd.  Isaac Haxton- $1,168,566

3rd.  Greg Raymer- $774,927

4th.  Dani Stern- $548,315

5th.  Justin Bonomo- $413,166
