WASSUP '09: Event #5 Goes To Mercier
June 4, 2022

Jason Mercier, a young poker pro from Florida, before entering this year's Series already had close to $3,000,000 in tournament winnings, as well as the respect of his peers thanks to numerous big cashes including a prestigious win in a European Poker Tour High Roller Event for nearly a million dollars, but he still didn't have the one piece of hardware that almost every poker player craves, at least not until yesterday.

Yesterday Jason Mercier took down Event #5 of the 40th Annual World Series of Poker for $237,415.  The win was by no means the biggest cash of his career, in fact it barely cracked his top five but given the caliber of the competition in this $1,500 buy-in WSOP bracelet event, it should surely go down as one of his proudest.  Just a few of the pros who competed in Event #5 include Sorel Mizzi, Ivan Demidov, Alexander Kravchenko, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, Daniel Negreanu, Allen Cunningham and PokerRoad Radio's Gavin Smith.  Pros he bested at the final table include An Tran, Dario Alioto and Steven Burkholder.

The final table finish positions for Event #5, the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, were as follows:

1st.  Jason Mercier- $237,415

2nd.  Steven Burkholder- $146,748

3rd.  Kevin Iacofano- $96,128

4th.  Matt Giannetti- $66,544

5th.  Chris Biondino- $48,533

6th.  Jonathan Tare- $37,192

7th.  Dario Alioto- $29,882

8th.  An Tran- $25,122

9th.  Victa Park- $22,053
