WASSUP '09: Event #35, Austin Wins In Vegas
June 22, 2021

Friday's final table of Event #35- the $5,000 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha, of the 40th Annual World Series of Poker, held both Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy and Sorel "Imper1ium" Mizzi, two ferocious online and live tournament pros, yet it was lesser known Richard Austin who finished the event on top, earning $409,484 and his first WSOP gold bracelet.

It was not as if Austin could easily avoid "Bax" and Sorel, both made it all the way into the final three before he successfully knocked them out, in one huge, fateful, three-way pot.

Mathematically speaking, when that hand began Sorel Mizzi had the best of it before the flop (A,A,5,3) and Josephy held the best of it after, when the last of the money went in (with a set of kings), but as sometimes math is idiotic, it was Austin who held the tournament winning King-high flush, by the time the hand was done.

Sorel Mizzi had more chips than Josephy at the start of the final hand, so he earned the runner-up cash worth $253,048.

The final table finish positions for Event #35 were as follows:

1st.  Richard Austin- $409,484

2nd.  Sorel Mizzi- $253,048

3rd.  Cliff Josephy- $166,771

4th.  Dan Hindin- $116,748

5th.  Rifat Palevic- $86,516

6th.  Felipe Ramos- $67,663

7th.  Van Marcus- $55,687

8th.  Peter Jetten- $48,112

9th.  Samuel Ngai- $43,359
