WASSUP '09: Dad Davis Wins The Seniors
June 25, 2021

Michael Davis- while proudly sporting a PokerRoad t-shirt, took down the 2009 World Series of Poker Seniors Event yesterday, earning himself $437,358 as well as his first WSOP bracelet.

A record 2,707 players entered the 3-day Seniors Event of this year's 40th Annual World Series of Poker, enough to create a total prize pool worth $2,463,700.

Even given the large number of entrants, not much media excitement was expected from the Seniors Event but here at PokerRoad we were more than pleasantly surprised.  Not only is Michael Davis a friend of PokerRoad but his daughter, known affectionately as "Rachel from Long Beach," is a longtime fan and contributer to PokerRoad's Two Jacks In The Hole show, often calling in to discuss the day's topics with the show's hosts Scott Huff and Joe Stapleton.

Coincidentally, during last night's Two Jacks In The Hole live taping, Joe took a moment to discuss the Series (a rare departure for a show that prides itself on having little to nothing to do with poker) as another fan of the show, Ray Foley, had won an earlier event in the Series (#39) for $657,969, apparently right after stopping by the PokerRoad Radio booth to tell Stapes he was a fan of the Two Jacks, a ritual Davis also did before earning his nearly half million dollar score.  It's a strange phenomenon, but at this point there seems to be some real evidence that declaring your love for the Two Jacks In The Hole, can win you a bracelet.

The final table finish positions for Event #43- the $1,000 buy-in Seniors No-Limit Hold 'em World Championship, were as follows:

1st.  Michael Davis- $437,358

2nd.  Scotty Buller- $268,507

3rd.  Barry Bounds- $179,210

4th.  Michael Morusty- $126,863

5th.  Charles Simon- $95,332

6th.  Dan Delatorre- $76,118

7th.  Art Duncan- $64,047

8th.  Richard McCall- $56,903

9th.  Robert Beck- $53,208
