Dermot Wins Da Moola At APPT Macau

Ireland's Dermot Blain, took down the first main event of the new PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Season over the weekend, netting himself HKD $4,194,000, or over a half million dollars US.

Despite entering the final table seventh in chips, Dermot successfully outlasted the entire starting field of 429 players to earn his largest cash since recently turning pro, and in the process outperformed such top players as Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Joe Hachem, Johnny Chan, Vivek "FLOG" Rajkumar and Chris Moneymaker.

Blain ended his impressive run by surviving a final table that held even more tough players like Pontus Kers, Brandon Demes and poker industry expert Mike Kim, who made it as far as heads-up play before securing the runner-up position and second place cash worth HKD $2,984,100.

The final table finish positions for the 2009 APPT Macau main event were as follows:
