Goodwin Becomes "Good Runner-up," As Carter Claims EPT Crown
September 9, 2021

Carter Phillips, a young internet pro from the US, is the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour's newest champion, having recently outlasted the entire 478 person field of the EPT Barcelona main event.

For besting the field and surviving a tough final table that held numerous, tough aggressive players including the always dangerous Marc Goodwin, and local favorite Santiago Terrazas, Phillips earned EUR850,000- about $1,200,000 USD.

Goodwin, a long established pro from Birmingham with more than $1.4 million in live tournament winnings, fought valiantly throughout the five day Barcelona event, but was finally taken down during heads-up play, when his all-in shove with an over-card and inside straight draw was called by Carter's top pair.  With no dramatic change by the river, Goodwin earned EUR530,000 for his second place cash.

The final table finish positions for the 2009 PokerStars EPT Barcelona were as follows:

1st.  Carter Phillips- EUR850,000

2nd.  Marc Goodwin- EUR530,000?

3rd.  Santiago Terrazas- EUR300,000?

4th.  Mihai Manole- EUR250,000?

5th.  Asa Smith- EUR200,000?

6th.  Toni Ojala- EUR160,000?

7th.  Matt Lapossie- EUR120,000?

8th.  Georgios Kapalas- EUR80,000
