WCOOP NEWS Day 18: The Main Event

Well It has finally begun, after 44 preliminary events, 43,797 unique registered players and over $40 million in prize money given away in just under three weeks, the 2009 PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker Main Event is officially under way.

Yesterday's start of the two-day, $5,200 buy-in, $10,000,000 guaranteed Main Event attracted 2,144 players, enough to surpass the posted guarantee by $720,000 and to offer a top prize worth $1,715,200. 

Among the 2,000 some registered players sat many of the World's top online and live pros including nearly all of team PokerStars.  Just some of the players on the starting list included Chad Brown, Greg Raymer, J.C. Tran, Shaun Deeb, Chris Moneymaker, Ylon Schwartz, Vanessa Rousso, 2009 WCOOP multiple bracelet winner Daniel "djk123" Kelly and last year's WCOOP Main Event champion Carter King.

Day 1 of the Main Event saw the demise of all but 178 of those players, with each of those now in the money and within striking distance of a final table guaranteeing all nine members at least $96,480 and awarding the top two well over $1.2 million.
