Gustavson Edges Out Eastgate To End EPT London
October 7, 2021

Reigning 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Peter Eastgate, just a few hours ago, came about as close to winning the PokerStars European Poker Tour London Main Event as one can- without actually doing so- but was ultimately defeated during heads-up play by American online pro Aaron Gustavson.

Despite stiff competition, Gustavson who goes by the handle "Aguskb" online, made short work of the last seven players standing between him and this prestigious international title, entering the event as the dominant chip leader and keeping that lead nearly the entire way, with the exception of a few interesting moments when the pesky WSOP champ Eastgate, would sneak ahead, only to find himself quickly bounced back into second again- the same position he entered the final table in, and the position he seemed almost predetermined to leave with.

When heads-up play began, with the elimination of Nikolai Senninger by Gustavson's own hands (literally and figuratively), Aaron once again had nearly double the stack of his closest rival, and in less than ten hands after that, he had all of Eastgate's chips as well and was able to claim the EPT London trophy, the ?850,000 (about $1.35 million USD) first prize and the bragging rights inherent in winning what is now known to be the largest major poker tournament ever held in Europe.

The final table finish positions for the 2009 PokerStars European Poker Tour London main event were as follows:

1st.  Aaron Gustavson- ?850,000

2nd.  Peter Eastgate- ?530,000

3rd.  Nikolai Senninger- ?285,000

4th.  Martin Gudvangen- ?227,000

5th.  Dominic Cullen- ?173,000

6th.  Rui Milhomens- ?124,000

7th.  Raymond Wu- ?87,000

8th.  Karim Bennani- ?50,100
