UKIPT First Event Sees Respectable Numbers
December 11, 2021

PokerStars' most recent live tournament venture, the UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) saw its first main event begin today in Galway, Ireland, and though they didn't attract huge numbers, there was still enough interest to show some real future potential for this budding young tour.

A total of 259 players entered this inaugural EUR2,000 buy-in event being held at the Galway's Radisson Hotel, including such well known players as Carter Gill, Padraig Parkinson, John Duthie, Surinder Sunar, J.P. Kelly and Ireland's own Andy Black, who was not only clearly one of the most famous pros in attendance, but also one of the ones with the biggest rail.

Andy and the others, after numerous levels of play, were finally told what it was they were fighting for in Ireland and it appears this first event attracted enough players to payout 36 spots and award a top prize of EUR125,000 (or about $180,000 USD) to the UKIPT's first ever main event champion.
