Matusow, A Florida Poker Champion
August 11, 2021
Mike “The Mouth” Matusow truly walked the talk recently in South Florida, first teaching a DeepStacks University poker seminar at the state’s Isle Casino, and then using the techniques he taught to take down that casino’s premier $1,000 buy-in main event.

The Isle Casino’s Florida State Poker Championship main event, attracted a little over 400 players and awarded a top prize of nearly $105,000 to Matusow, an award he had clearly set his mind to capturing once he was the chip leader with 19 to go according to his popular twitter account.

“long day at isla casino chip leader 19 left 925k 8 million in play if i dont win find me at the morgue”  -@TheMouthMatusow

Despite being easily the most recognizable player at the final table, having outlasted other top pros that entered the event like Chino Rheem and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, he was still not the one many of the Floridian spectators were rooting for, having recently angered many by publicly stating that he thought most Florida players were “raw” and “terrible,” making unfavorable headlines in the state but surprising few that even casually follow the game, and already know Matusow to be one of the most controversial and outspoken players in poker.

This was Mike Matusow’s first major win since 2008.  Mike’s total live tournament winnings are now dangerously close to $7.5 million, putting him in the top 25 on the Hendon Mob’s all-time Money List.
