EPT Vilamoura Down To Final Eight
September 1, 2021
The PokerStars European Poker Tour Vilamoura main event, after four full days of play, is down to its last table with eight players now within striking distance of a top prize worth €467,835- about $600,000 USD.

These eight players are the most successful of a starting 384, that included such distinguished pros as Daniel Negreanu, Sorel Mizzi, Dario Minieri, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Antonio Esfandiari and Annette Obrestad, though none of those particular pros are part of that final eight.

Of course that’s not to suggest Vilamoura’s final table is without recognizable faces, on the contrary, not only are there well known poker pros still in the hunt, but also a high profile sports celebrity that was most likely considered little more than “dead money” when this event began.

Retired English football star Teddy Sheringham, currently sits in third place out of eight with 1,783,000 in tournament chips and has a real shot at being one of the first celebrity players since the poker boom to take down a major non-invitational tournament.  Unfortunately for Teddy, there are still quite a few obstacles in his way to that goal including professional players Rob Hollink, SamTrickett, and chip leader Toby Lewis, who currently leads the field with nearly double Teddy’s stack.

The chip stacks going into tomorrow’s final table of the PokerStars EPT Vialamoura main event are as follows:

Toby Lewis- 3,322,000

Sam Trickett- 3,318,000

Teddy Sheringham- 1,783,000

Jason Lee- 1,167,000

Sergio Coutinho- 872,000

Martin Jacobson- 441,000

Frederick Jensen- 375,000

Rob Hollink- 259,000
