Day 2 In San Remo, The Action Heats Up
April 4, 2022
The start of Day 2 at the European Poker Tour San Remo Championship saw an amazing number of well known pros still alive and heading fast towards the $1,340,867 first place prize. Alas, despite their best efforts, most of these pros departed Day 2 well before the last hand of the day. Daniel Negreanu, Liz Lieu, Thor Hansen, and even "The Italian Pirate" Max Pescatori, were among the casualties of this fast and furious second day of action. Other well known players faired much better, including home town hero Dario Minieri. Minieri, sometimes called "The Harry Potter of Poker," showed real wizardry on Day 2, with his now infamous gonzo-style of reckless but effective aggression. This aggressive style doubled up more than a few players by the end of the day, but also left Minieri with a healthy 596,000 in chips, an amount good for third place overall. Other notable players to survive the day were Todd Brunson, Markus Golser, and Jason Mercier. If you don't know Mercier's name yet, let me tell you all you need to know. With 684,000 in chips, he currently leads the field and seems destined to make it deep into Day 3, if not all the way to the final table.
