Flowers Blooms Into A WPT Multi-Nation Champion
October 21, 2021
Randal Flowers, the 20 year-old that took down the World Poker Tour Season 8 Spanish Championship in Barcelona in 2009, just won his second WPT title less than two years later, thanks to the Bellagio Festa al Lago main event.

Flowers, now 22, outlasted a total impressive field of 335 players to earn his second WPT bracelet and top prize of $831,500, including such internationally recognized poker stars as Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Annette Obrestad, Barry Greenstein, Gavin Smith and Erik Seidel.  The victory puts his overall live tournament winnings at nearly $1.8 million and makes him no longer just the youngest player ever to earn a WPT title, but now the youngest to also earn two.

Despite entering the televised WPT final table as the chip leader yesterday, a victory for Flowers was far from a foregone conclusion.  Besides being forced to deal with such top competition as highly respected pro Noah Schwartz, Flowers also had to deal with fellow WPT Champion Andy Frankenberger, the man who just two months earlier clearly proved his chops by taking down LA’s Legends of Poker.

Frankenberger, even entering the final table fourth in chips, had to be considered a legitimate threat when play began, but was unfortunately- at least for him- dismissed fairly quickly.  Frankenberger’s demise came about thanks to a pair of pocket fives which ended up all-in against Flowers’ pocket tens, when the board offered no help, Frankenberger found himself the fifth place finisher above only Skip Wilson- who was eliminated a mere three hands earlier.

Obviously, Andy was not the only player eliminated by Flowers nor was he the last.  That honor went instead to Michael Benvenuti, who fought valiantly, but stood little chance against Flowers’ aggression, particularly given Randal's dominating stack worth nearly three-times Benvenuti’s, which he bolstered by knocking out Schwartz in third.  For the runner-up finish, Benvenuti earned $564,200.

The final table finish positions for the 2010 WPT Festa al Lago at the Bellagio were as follows:

1st.  Randal Flowers- $831,500

2nd.  Michael Benvenuti- $564,200

3rd.  Noah Schwartz- $344,968

4th.  Jason Koon- $225,680

5th.  Andrew Frankenberger- $161,200

6th.  Skip Wilson- $112,840
