Controversial And Historic, The Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic-Ladies Tournament
April 17, 2022
The Ladies' Tournament during this year's Five Star World Poker Classic attracted 150 players (144 women, 6 men) despite the buy-in being a record setting $1,500. The $1,500 buy-in easily eclipsed the previous record buy-in for a ladies event which was to be found at the WSOP ($1,000). This tournament, which could have been a watershed moment for the emergence of women as a dominating force in poker, was unfortunately overshadowed by controversy, due to a surprise 15% mandatory charitable contribution.

Despite this, many big names still decided to play in the event including Kathy Liebert, Linda Johnson, J.J. Liu, Evelyn Ng, Vanessa Selbst, and Jennifer Tilly. Of these, only Selbst was able to overcome the stiff competition and make it to the final table, where she will sit as the dominant chip leader with 182,200 in chips.

The televised final table of this event will be played on April 25th, which will give the other 5 finalists a good week to plan a quality "anti-Selbst" strategy.
