Many South Carolina Poker Players Want Their Day In Court
April 29, 2022
Due to South Carolina's absurdly strict anti-gambling laws, over 60 people have recently been arrested during numerous police raids for allegedly committing the crime of playing poker. Many of those arrested were charged with a simple misdemeanor and given a fine of a few hundred dollars. Unfortunately for South Carolina, some of these players seem completely unwilling to accept the figurative slap on the wrist, instead insisting upon a trial by jury. It is apparently hoped that these trials will bring even more public attention to South Carolina's somewhat bizarre anti-gambling laws, laws which forbid any form of entertainment that use cards or dice and can't even differentiate between a claw machine at a "Chuck E Cheese" and a video poker machine at a casino.
