Possible New Poker Tax In New Hampshire
May 9, 2022
A current bill working it's way through the New Hampshire State Legislature, if passed, will add a 10% tax to all charity gambling events that take place in the state. Current laws in New Hampshire allow poker tournaments and low limit ring games ($2 max bet) if 35% of the net proceeds go to charity, this new law will effectively take another 10% out of the pool for the state's coffers.

This proposed bill does have the support of New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, who believes the current tax free status that charity gambling enjoys, is a loophole that needs closing. Lynch estimates that this new tax would generate more than $5 million dollars a year for New Hampshire.
