WASSUP '08: Close but no title for "FBT" Mueller
June 9, 2021
Last year, poker pro and former professional hockey player, Greg "FBT" Mueller, was only one spot away from claiming his first WSOP bracelet, finishing second to Steve Billirakis in the World Championship Mixed Hold'em event. Sadly for Mueller, 2008's Event #11, the No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, proved to be yet another disappointing second place finish for a pro that's in danger of becoming known for always being the bridesmaid and never the bride.

To win the Event #11 bracelet, a player needed to only win three sit-n-go style tables in a row - a seemingly easy feat which proved to be anything but. Despite many big name players going deep in the event, it was a relatively unknown player who would finally come home with the gold. Phillip Tom, in an outstanding performance, eventually knocked out Mueller heads-up to win his last of three consecutive tables, thus earning himself his first bracelet and the biggest cash of his career, $477,900. Mueller took $298,638 for second place, an impressive finish which at the moment may seem of little comfort.
