WASSUP '08: Amateur Frank Gary Wins During "Year Of The Pro"
June 26, 2021
During the final table of Event #41, the $1,500 Mixed-Limit Hold'em, it was looking as if we were about to see yet another pro take a bracelet. North Carolinian Nick Binger, seemed to be systematically destroying the final table, single handedly knocking out the first six players of the nine. However it was not to be, as it was Binger who was knocked out next, when he was taken down by Jonathan Tamayo, forcing him to settle for third and a cash of $84,814.

With the unexpected elimination of Binger, a heads-up battle commenced between Jonathan Tamayo and amateur player Frank Gary. After knocking out Binger, Tamayo entered the heads-up portion with more tournament experience and the chip lead, yet it would be Frank Gary that would end the day with the title, the bracelet and the $219,508 first prize. Jonathan Tamayo took second for $140,093.
