Internet Poker to Save Social Security??
July 18, 2021
Congressman James McDermott (D-WA) has introduced a bill (formerly HR 6061) entitled "Investing in our Human Resources Act of 2008." The bill, ostensibly would "allocate up to $40 billion to provide educational and job-training assistance to current and former foster care participants, along with workers trapped in declining market sectors."*

How is this poker news? Well, the McDermott bill's plan is to get the $40 Billion from the taxation of government regulated online gambling. Basically, Congressman McDermott's bill wants to help the current social security problem by regulating online poker and using the moeny taxed from it.

PokerNews also obtained a quote from the PPA on the bill; PPA Executive Director John Pappas said: "McDermott is on the tax writing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and he's been an advocate for extracting revenue from internet gambling. The PPA hasn't had an opportunity to review his proposal thoroughly, but we like the out-of-the-box thinking to be able to connect the benefits of legislation to a worthy cause."

People, go to the PPA's website! Find out how you can get your representatives behind this bill!
